Our Vision is to help eliminate curable blindness by providing in low-income states of India affordable, accessible, sustainable, quality curative and preventive eye care services, and empower women to achieve this.
Our Mission is to spearheadBihar, one of the poorest Indian states, has a population of 104 million - of which approximately 700,000 people are
blind in both eyes. Based on thousand of eye camps we hold each year, our estimates indicate that the number of blind
people in Bihar is increasing by approximately 100,000 each year.
Akhand Jyoti started curing blindness in December 2005, concentrating principally in Bihar. Akhand Jyoti is now one of the top five eye hospitals in India, providing cataract surgeries, specialty treatment for glaucoma, retinal issues and paediatric eye care, as well as refractive error correction.
We believe that no one should suffer from blindness because they cannot afford the cost of treatment. Due to a high level of poverty in Bihar, up to 2026, we will provide 80% of our surgeries free of charge to those who cannot afford the cost.
We are empowering women to lead our blindness elimination efforts. Since 2009, we have been training rural girls to become qualified optometrists and expect to have 1,500 girls enrolled in our programme by 2030.
People from around the world, from diverse industries, are collaborating with others in the
community to improve the lives of the underprivileged.
100% of donations we receive are used towards resolving blindness.
The donations have helped us achieve remarkable results:
