Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital: Centre Of Excellence Now Open To Serve Rural Bihar

Advancing Towards Vision 2030

On June 3, India’s first Centre of Excellence (CoE) in eye care, located in a rural area of Bihar, opened its doors, marking a transformative milestone in the region's healthcare landscape.

This 500-bedded super specialty eye hospital is poised to revolutionize eye care by addressing the critical need for advanced services in underserved communities.

The establishment of the CoE reflects a deep commitment to reducing the prevalence of curable blindness and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.

Expanded Facilities: Mastichak Campus

In combination with the existing 200-bed Charak Complex, the new Susrut Complex elevates the Mastichak campus to one of the largest eye hospitals in India, with a total of 700 beds.

The new hospital campus, spanning over 207,000 sq. ft., is equipped with 10 OPD clinics and has the capacity to examine 800 patients daily and perform 500 eye surgeries across its 11 operation theatres.

The hospital features the largest and only comprehensive paediatric eye care facility in the region and includes an eye banking facility.

It will also serve as a hub for ophthalmic academic and research activities for ophthalmologists and optometrists.

Cutting-Edge Services and Community Care

The CoE boasts state-of-the-art equipment and specializes in various eye care disciplines, including General Ophthalmology, Cornea, Retina, Glaucoma, Oculoplasty, Oncology, Vision Rehabilitation, and spectacle dispensing.

Demonstrating a steadfast dedication to community welfare, the hospital offers free surgeries for the underprivileged, ensuring that no one is denied essential eye care due to financial constraints.

Vision 2030: A Commitment to Accessible Eye Care

The CoE is a significant advancement in the Vision 2030 initiative, which is our commitment to expanding eye care services across Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

The ambitious plan includes screening 12 million people, performing 2 million surgeries, and training 1,500 underprivileged girls to become skilled optometrists. This initiative underscores the organization's dedication to eliminating blindness and promoting eye health in underserved communities.

Inauguration and Dignitary Presence

The hospital was inaugurated last year on November 2, 2023, by the Hon'ble Governor of Bihar, Shri Rajendra Arlekar, and Dr. Chinmay Pandya, Acting Head of the Gayatri Pariwar and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Dev Sanskriti Vishwa Vidhyalaya, Haridwar, in the presence of other eminent dignitaries.
