From Limits To Leadership: Divya's Path To Success

In the heart of rural Bihar, Divya Gupta’s story is one of resilience, transformation, and empowerment. Raised amidst financial challenges, Divya’s journey took a pivotal turn thanks to the unwavering emotional support of her maternal family.

At a time when societal norms threatened to dictate her future, her aunt’s encouragement planted the seeds of hope and ambition in her young heart.

A Life of Uncertainty and Struggles

Life for Divya was not without difficulties. The passing of her maternal grandfather and her uncle’s early career struggles meant financial constraints were ever-present.

With her parents away in the city, Divya often felt uncertain about her future.

I was never asked about my dreams. I was expected to serve and live an ordinary life,

Divya recalls.

Had I stayed with my parents, my life would have mirrored that of many rural girls in Bihar—endless household chores and likely marriage at a young age. I wouldn’t have had the chance to make decisions or aspire for more.

Despite limited resources, her maternal grandmother and uncle were steadfast in their support, ensuring that Divya could continue her education and aim for a brighter future.

A Turning Point: Joining Akhand Jyoti

Divya’s life changed when her maternal uncle and aunt introduced her to Akhand Jyoti’s 'Football to Eyeball' Girls' Education Programme.

This transformative initiative provided her with an opportunity to pursue education and professional training in optometry.

Encouraged by her family, Divya joined the programme after completing her 10th-grade exams. She thrived in the supportive environment, completing her Bachelor of Optometry and eventually earning an MBA in healthcare.

The programme not only equipped her with technical skills but also instilled confidence and a sense of self-worth, enabling her to take control of her future.

A Life of Purpose and Pride

Today, Divya serves as the IPD Billing & PMJAY Manager at Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital. Far from being an afterthought, she is now a key contributor to her family and community.

Her role in decision-making and her financial contributions have transformed how she is perceived by her loved ones.

Her father, who once focused primarily on his sons, now beams with pride at her accomplishments. Her maternal uncle and aunt, who supported her dreams from the start, reflects on her journey with admiration.

My niece has proven that with the right guidance and opportunity, a girl can achieve anything. Seeing her grow into such a confident woman fills me with pride. She is not just my niece; she’s an inspiration to us all,

she says.

Empowered and Proud

Divya’s journey showcases the transformative power of education and opportunity. Through Akhand Jyoti’s 'Football to Eyeball' Girls' Education Programme, she overcame financial and emotional challenges to become an empowered, independent woman.

Her story serves as a beacon of hope, proving that with the right support, any girl can rise above limitations and create a future full of promise and purpose.
